Hearing A Good Sermon Even If One Might Not Be Preached
(Principles from The Crossings Method to Help Preachers and Listeners)
Sound a bit cheeky? Glad to have your attention! This course will introduce “The Crossings Method” to both preachers and listeners of sermons. The Crossings Method is a tool for the theological interpretation of Scripture that will help course participants to not only preach the Gospel but also to be better able to hear the Gospel. Students will learn how to use The Crossings Method and explore its basis in the fundamental distinction between Law and Gospel. Students will utilize the method in the analysis of various Biblical texts from the Common Lectionary. Students will examine various sermons as examples of Law/Gospel preaching. The class will utilize lecture, visuals, readings and discussion.

Leading this process will be the Rev. Steve Albertin, who is a Board Member of The Crossings Community and a writer of text studies and occasional offerings for the Crossings Blog. He also is the creator of new Crossings’ Faith Seeking
Understanding videos discussion series. He is a retired ELCA pastor now residing in Zionsville, Indiana. He spent 40 years serving various congregations in Indiana. Steve holds M.Div. and S.T.M. degrees from Christ Seminary-Seminex and a D. Min. Degree from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. Over the years, he has written several new hymns
and published several collections of sermons. Class sessions will be held on five Thursday nights during Lent 2022: March 10, March 17, March 24, March 31 will be zoom only and it is hoped that the session on April 7 will be hybrid, Covid conditions permitting.
